What does it mean to join the Legacy Society?

It means you have informed the Santa Barbara Education Foundation that you have included a provision for them in your estate plan.

Is there a minimum amount needed to join?

Estate gifts of all sizes are welcome. We invite those who join to give us an estimate of their intended future gift, but this is not required.

Is joining the Legacy Society legally binding?

Joining is the expression of your current intention only and is not legally binding.

Can I change my mind?

We will not receive your gift until after your death. During your lifetime, you can amend anything you choose, such as amounts or beneficiaries.

Do I need to hire a lawyer?

You do not need to hire a lawyer to join the Legacy Society, but an estate planning attorney is recommended to establish an estate plan that will best serve you and your family. You can find simple bequest language at santabarbaraeducation.org, or call (805) 284-9125.

For questions about this and other ways to give to Santa Barbara Education Foundation and its endowment fund, please call Margie Yahyavi, Executive Director, at (805) 284-9125, or email [email protected].
