SUMMER STRING CAMP will still be offered remotely!  Your musicians will still connect, create, and play with us this summer.

Open to students ages 9-14 with at least one year experience on violin, viola, cello, and bass.

Dates: June 15-June 26th

Beginners: 1-3pm via Zoom

Intermediate/Advanced: 3-5pm via Zoom

 

Directors: Kristi Holstein and Jordan Warmath

This camp welcomes participants ages 9-14 with at least one year of experience on violin, viola, cello, or bass.  String students will gain technical skills on their instrument, increased note reading facility, and composition instruction in a fun, supportive environment. Players will be divided by level into ensemble groups where they will practice their instruments together, culminating in an end of camp performance, including performing a piece of their own composition!

The cost of the camp is $200 per student.  This year the camp will take place virtually via Zoom.   Please contact Katie Szopa at katie@santabarbaraeducation.org or call 805-284-9125 with any questions.  You can register online below or print out this Registration Form 2020 fill out and send it in to our office with payment.  We have a limited amount of scholarships available for students who receive free/reduced lunch.  If you are in need of a scholarship, do not sign up online.  Print out one of the registration forms below, fill it out, and bring in with a copy of your free/reduced lunch letter.  The scholarship cost is $50 per student.  No full refunds after June 1, 2020.  If cancellation is before June 1st, we will hold back a $50 processing fee.

Kristi Holstein

Kristi Holstein was born in Charleston, West Virginia and began playing violin at age 7.  She received her Bachelor of Music degree summa cum laude from West Virginia University and her Master of Music from the University of Texas at Arlington. A member of the American String Teachers Association, National Association for Music Educators, American Chamber Music Society, and Society of Music Theory, she is currently a teaching artist with a number of Santa Barbara Symphony education programs, Santa Barbara Strings, and Santa Barbara County schools. She has won orchestral positions with the American Youth Symphony and Young Musicians Foundation Debut Chamber Orchestra in Los Angeles and regularly performs with the Santa Maria Philharmonic Society, San Luis Obispo Symphony, Opera San Luis Obispo, and many other organizations on the Central Coast. Kristi is a founding member of the Folk Orchestra of Santa Barbara and has held a principal position in the ensemble since its creation in 2017. She is an active chamber musician and maintains a private violin and viola studio in Santa Barbara.

Jordan Warmath

Violist Jordan Warmath received her DMA in Viola Performance from UCSB in 2017. She has appeared on stage with internationally acclaimed artists such as soprano Renée Fleming, the Takács Quartet, cellist Carter Brey, pianist Emanuel Ax, and violinists Anne Akiko Meyers, Glenn Dicterow, and Gil Shaham. As a member of the University of California Santa Barbara Piano Quartet she performed in master classes for Yo-Yo Ma, the Danish Quartet, and the Kronos Quartet. A passionate promoter of modern compositions, Dr. Warmath has premiered solo viola works by contemporary composers Charles Peck, Arthur Gotschalk, Joel Feigin, Hillary Purrington, Jennifer Dirkes, and Marc Evans at Rice University, the University of Texas at Austin, UCLA, and UCSB. ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­As an advocate for modern viola literature, she continues to commission, seek, promote, and perform contemporary music as frequently as possible. Most recently she can be heard on the soundtracks to Bad Boys 3 and Lego Movie 2!
