The Santa Barbara Unified School District Board of Education approved the appointment of Valerie Galindo as the next principal for Roosevelt Elementary, effective July 1, 2020.

Ms. Galindo has sixteen years of teaching experience and knows our district and community well.  With her current experience as your assistant principal,  Ms. Galindo will build upon the foundation of relationships and work that she has established this year.  Amidst the extraordinary circumstances that SB Unified is going through this spring, Ms. Galindo will provide continuity of leadership when we begin the next school year.

Ms. Galindo said she is very much looking forward to joining the Roosevelt team. “I am thrilled to begin my role as principal at Roosevelt Elementary. I deeply appreciate the warm welcome I have been given and am looking forward to leading a school that has such a strong commitment to its students.”

Santa Barbara Board of Education President Laura Capps, who is also a Roosevelt mom and alum, said she is thrilled by the appointment. “From day one as Assistant Principal, Ms. Galindo gave our campus a big boost of ‘Roughrider’ school spirit, making kids feel seen and valued.  I’m hopeful that her solid expertise in both elementary and secondary education will put Roosevelt on a stronger path for the future. Welcome, Ms. Galindo!”

Superintendent Cary Matsuoka added: “We look forward to the opportunity to introduce Ms. Galindo to your school community as your next principal when circumstances allow us to gather in person.  Please join me in congratulating Valerie Galindo as the next principal of Roosevelt Elementary School.”
